Staff Sergeant Adelbert F. Waldron, or Adelbert F. Waldron III, (March 14, 1933 – October 18, 1995) was a United States Army sniper serving during the Vietnam War (9th Infantry Div.). Although little known, until 2011 Waldron held the record for confirmed kills by any American sniper in history at 109.[1][2] Replaced in 2011 by Navy SEAL Chris Kyle with 160,[3] Carlos Hathcock had 93 confirmed kills, Eric R. England had 98 and Chuck Mawhinney had 103 - all but Waldron were members of the US Marine Corps.
Waldron was one of the few two-time recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross, both awarded for separate actions in 1969.[4]
Waldron is buried in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California, Columbarium A (shelter F), Court B, Row B, Site 37.
